Live Loved Free Full is one of the latest writings of Wayne Jacobsen, best known for his collaboration on The Shack. It is formatted as a daily devotional book, using excerpts from blog posts, speaking engagements and other sources of his material. The readings are short and conclude with a snippet from the Bible.
Jacobsen invites Christians back into their love relationship with Christ. He uses stories and examples from his own life as well as those he has encountered in his ministry. Page after page, there are reminders of the boundless, grace-filled love of God. In a “performance review” world, where every failing is magnified and used as a reason to criticize, Jacobsen counters the tendency we all have to let that “performance mentality” creep back into our relationship with the Divine. God’s love is not meted out on a sliding scale!
This book was published mid-pandemic, as many of us struggled with feeling adequate to the tasks of our workplaces, homes, and relationships. Wayne responds to questions of fear, frustration, guilt, and grief. He continuously points the reader back to the love of God revealed to us in Christ. He wants all of us to rest and trust in the unchanging nature of God.
It is a comforting book.
My own quibble is that God is consistently gendered as male. This slightly surprised me, given his involvement in The Shack. Perhaps a future edition will correct this.
If you need a soothing, comforting reading in the Word of God each day, this will be a good read for you.
