Photo-a-Day: Wander

This icy stream is in the Rocky Mountains. On a 80 degree day, we sat down on rocks and cooled off our tired, aching feet that had been cooped up in hiking boots. While I sat, I watched the flow of the current as it wandered from one side of the streambed to the other, around obstacles, rocks, logs…

The path of the stream was not in a straight line. We had been hiking beside it for several hours. I remember thinking that the stream itself didn’t go “straight” for more than a few feet until it moved and careened in a new direction. It took the path of least resistance.

It is so easy to take the path of least resistance in a culture where the Eternal and the Infinite are scoffed and “explained.” It is also easy to misunderstand the role of creative, full-fledged, all-in commitment to allow the Spirit of God to lead and re-direct one’s path at the next opportunity of grace.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above…
