evensong

A hush begins to build
The whine of commuters’ tires ceases
I find a space of time and place
to catch my breath
to hear the birds
to see the face of God
in the clouds
in the trees
And I ponder…

This day is done;
tomorrow brings
unknown struggles,
untold joys.
In honest grace
I rest
I wait
I listen.

Those I met today, God,
with heavy burdens,
and breaking hearts.
The families I saw carry on
through tears
and doubts,
with courage
and peace…
I saw You there as well.

In this evensong
I stop to wait
and breathe
and pray.
And to seek You in another day.

Amen.
