A life well-lived

I wrote this blog post on an Apple product. I talked to our Johnnie on another. My music plays in the background from a third Apple product. And yet, it could have been all three actions on one device, had I chosen to do so. The genius. The perfection. What a wonder!

Steve Jobs died today from cancer. It’s sobering for me. I don’t exactly advertise my age, but Steve and I share the same birth year. He was someone who was not a pillager of personal information (hello Facebook?) but chose to examine the world he was marketing his products to, and find a way to design what they wanted and needed. A man who has been villianized and immortalized by his legendary drive, focus and vision. A man who truly left his mark on the world.

May we all choose to do the same.

William Penn wrote these words. I think that they nicely sum up the ethos and pathos of Steve Jobs’ life. And they are a shining hope for my own…

“I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”

Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,
Grant them eternal rest, O Lord,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
