I have been writing daily prayers during Lent, based on prompts from Rachel Hackenberg. Yesterday’s prompt was one that I resonated with deeply.
In Luke’s telling of the triumphant entrance and palm parade in Jerusalem, the disciples shout, “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven!” When the Pharisees insist to Jesus that the disciples keep quiet, he replies, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.” (Luke 19:38-40)
A question for your reflection, creativity and prayer: what would the stones shout? In Luke’s telling of the triumphant entrance and palm parade in Jerusalem, the disciples shout, “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven!” When the Pharisees insist to Jesus that the disciples keep quiet, he replies, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.” (Luke 19:38-40)
Rising above the salt and sand,
The rocks cry out
HOSANNA!
Though weathered and weary, worn down to dust
Still they respond
HOSANNA!
In light of day or murky night
My heart responds
with joy.
For every place on earth, in heaven,
We echo back
HOSANNA!
