From the Desk Blotter: Phos Hilaron

I have no idea where I found this poem, only that it spoke to me of the Light of God’s Love found in Christ.

Phos Hilaron
(O Radiant Light)

O Radiant Light, O sun divine
of God the Father’s deathless face,
O image of the light sublime
that fills the heavenly dwelling place.

Lord Jesus Christ, as daylight fades,
as shine the lights of eventide,
We praise the Father with the Son,
the Spirit blest and with them one.

O Son of God, the source of life,
Praise is your due by night and day;
Unsullied lips must raise the strains
of Your proclaimed and splendid Name.

The one who gives life appeared! We saw it happen, and we are witnesses to what we have seen. Now we are telling you about this eternal life that was with the Father and appeared to us. We are telling you what we have seen and heard, so that you may share in this life with us. And we share in it with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing to tell you these things, because this makes us truly happy. Jesus told us that God is light and doesn’t have any darkness in him. Now we are telling you.
