It’s just me, my Mucinex, a box of tissues and the cats today. I am being a good patient.
I’m not THAT sick — it’s just a cold that has gone to my chest. I have a barky cough, a scratchy voice, and sound terrible. Two naps, tea and a warm chair in the sunshine help. But also what helps the most is what is affectionately called “vocal rest.”
As in… be quiet. Don’t talk. Shut up already.
I don’t do this so well. One phone call was enough to send me into a coughing fit, so I know this is the best medicine.
In the silence I also can make room for God’s Word to nestle in and encourage my heart.
“Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.” (Psalm 46:10)
“The LORD is in his holy temple;
let all the earth be silent before him.” (Habbakuk 2:20)
“God lets me rest in green meadows;
and leads me beside peaceful streams.” (Psalm 23:2)
My voice can’t sing, but my soul can…
In the quiet, in the stillness
I know that You are God
In the secret of Your presence
I know there I am restored
When You call I won’t refuse
Each new day again I’ll choose
There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise
In the chaos and confusion
I know you’re sovereign still
In the moment of my weakness
You give me grace to do your will
So when you call I’ll won’t delay
This my song through all my days.
There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring him praise.
All my delight is in you Lord
All of my hope, all of strength
All of my delight is in you Lord
Forevermore…
Pei pa koa is pretty decent cough medicine (from herbal as I remembered), great non alcoholic medicine, some western cough medicine are more effective, but this is non drowsy.
