Thanksgiving Challenge: Day Number 5

I’m thankful for my health, and that my kids and husband, and my extended family are in good health this Thanksgiving. That’s not something I take for granted. We’re all one test and diagnosis away from the hardest holiday ever.

I’m thankful for a year of healing. Bearded Brewer’s mom died last Thanksgiving Day. It was hard on him and on all of us. It was a difficult holiday season. I know how much pastoral presence meant to us on that day and that weekend. Ruth came and brought communion. Dana and Randy, Marina, and Terry were a constant praying presence. Our small group listened and cared for us. Numerous folks supported our girls. It would not have been possible without each of them.

While I will spend time at the hospital today, I go there knowing that someone is NOT having a happy day. I’m the Companion, listening, praying, bringing peace. All the while, I’m thankful that my family is healthy this Thanksgiving.

  1. {{{hugs}}} to you, and gratitude that you can be that Companion for hurting people. I have a friend who is in hospice and dying – her sister died on Thanksgiving some years ago, and I was on edge all weekend thinking she would do likewise. I hope your husband and entire family were able to get through the ‘anniversary’ this year without too much fresh pain.
