I spent time back in Matthew re-reading the Lord’s Prayer. Tonight I chose to use the New Living Translation to break my thoughts off of the overly familiar words in the King James…
9 Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one.
The verse which immediately gave me pause was
May your Kingdom come soon.
Not a wishful thinking or a fatalistic attitude, but more of a desire to see the broken world we live in be made new, the hurting people I talk to find peace, and the anger and divisions between human beings be ended. A place of healing made reality. A time of sadness and discouragement ended.
Gives me a whole new motivation to pray…
